The Goodwill Ambassador is a member of various professional organisations and has been credited for transforming Kenya’s Public Relations profession. Mr. Gullet noted that Kenya Red Cross had been looking for personalities and professionals who have excelled in their fields to join the Kenya Red Cross’ noble course.“The Goodwill Ambassador is expected to make significant and long-term contribution to the Red Cross Movement activities, as well as gain knowledge in Red Cross work as a result of their association with the Red Cross Movement,” said the Secretary General.Mr. Gullet made special mention of Mrs. Gina Din-Kariuki’s assistance to rescuers after the collapse of a building in Nairobi, two years ago, saying it was indicative of her steady response to alleviation of human suffering.
Kenya Red Cross Governor, Mr. Paul Birech, presented the Goodwill Ambassador’s plaque to Mrs. Gina Din-Kariuki before roping her in a Red Cross Disaster Response jacket, signifying her new role. Present during the event were the Minister for Co-operative Development Hon. Joseph Nyagah, Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs Ms. Martha Karua, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Farah Maalim, Permanent Secretaries, members of diplomatic corps, chief executives of corporate organisations, businessmen, family and friends of Mrs. Gina Din-Kariuki, staff of Kenya Red Cross and the Gina Din PR firm.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Gina Din-Kariuki said she was honoured that Kenya Red Cross asked her to serve as a Goodwill Ambassador. She promised to forge close and long-term relationship aimed at raising funds and creating awareness for Kenya Red Cross.
The Goodwill Ambassador observed that her history with the Kenya Red Cross is long and memorable, dating back to her childhood in Nanyuki where she was involved in the annual Flag Day collection of money in tin cans.
“I am a long time supporter of the Red Cross, and delighted to accept a formalized position, providing me with a platform from which I can address and highlight issues close to my heart, and to the hearts of many,” said Mrs. Gina Din-Kariuki.
The Goodwill Ambassador paid tribute to Mr. Gullet describing him as her role model. “My admiration of Mr. Gullet as a mentor and friend as well as the fact that I have worked closely with him for many years enhanced my desire to become more involved in the Kenya Red Cross,” she added.
