Friday, 23rd October 2009: Rescue and recovery operations at a collapsed building in Kiambu town, were concluded yesterday. Kenya Red Cross staff and volunteers were among the personnel who rescued 16 people, who were treated in various hospitals. Sixteen people lost their lives during the tragedy. The Society also provided tracing and pyschosocial support services.
Thursday, 22nd October 2009: Rescue and recovery operations at a collapsed building in Kiambu town, were called off at 1am on Wednesday night. After three days of operations, a joint team of rescue workers managed to rescue 16 people alive and recovered 16 bodies. By yesterday, relatives had positively identified 11 bodies of those who perished in the tragedy.
Four people who sustained injuries are still admitted in hospitals; three at Kiambu District Hospital and one at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Nairobi.
Kenya Red Cross Society is making every effort to trace nine people whose names were submitted by relatives as missing after the collapse of the building in Kiambu.
